PAINTING SPRING 23
DOC 234—34/2

Throughout my studies I have always found a hands-on creative process: one being painting. I have been developing my technique through classical studies and processes:
working with still life, masterwork studies, colour theory, generalized styles and continual studies. I have appreciated the process just as much as the material, and have gone in depth with various works. A few firsts for me this spring such as making my own canvas, learning some tweaks for better viewer pleasure, and setting up my own intricate still life(although in the past have made some more modern ones).
My time focusing on oil painting this spring has helped me to improve majorly, here is the work to show for it

#STILL LIFEFrom setting up my own still life, to sketching out the base with mineral spirits and thin paint, I have grown to appreciate this painting more than most. In total, I spent a few weeks working on a 12 x 16 sheet of canvas paper. The details alone took about 19 hours, with a couple of sessions of 10 hours and 9 hours each. This piece, although grueling in the process, is amazing and truly the fruit of my labor.

#ROCKIN 60S JELLOA stylized piece, the task was to create a photo realistic painting. I chose jello, and although seems like one would be fairly simple to create, it could be worked on a bit longer to add a photography sense to it. However, if you stand far enough back at just the right place, it starts to look like youre looking at a huge jello bundt. Sometimes there is beauty in lack of strenuous detail.

#MASTER REWORK STUDYLoved immersing myself into the life of Paul Cezanne.Beginning my studies in the local library, I learned of his life prior to becoming an artist, and why his style came to be. This expressionism, post-impressionism was gorgeous. People were shocked and thought of it as scandalous and then the opposite. In whole, the process was really fun and expressive, I felt as though I was drawing a bit, and very minimally did I need to mix the paint off the canvas: additionally, went back in for some thicker paint strokes to mimic Cezanne’s, himself.

#EXTRASHere are some extra studies: some still life black x white and colour study using construction paper and pinning it to the wall:
Composition work was considered and needs improvement, most of my practice studies were well critiqued and contstructive.
